
RESPECTFULNESS
As a learner at ECS, I shall show respect to all Staff members, student leaders, peers, younger children and even myself. Respect includes:
✅ Greeting adults first, especially visitors to the school.
✅ Helping and serving others.
✅ Ensuring my language and behaviour is appropriate a nd in accordance with Christian values.
✅ Being punctual and on time for all lessons, assemblies, school events.
✅ Recognizing my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. I shall not damage this temple by smoking, drinking alcohol, using drugs or being sexually promiscuous.
✅ Displaying Godly stewardship. I shall keep the areas, both where I learn and play, clean and tidy, as well as free from litter. I shall also keep fellow learners accountable to this same standard.
I show self respect by:
✅ Wearing my uniform correctly. When my school uniform is worn correctly, it shows school pride.
✅ Keeping my uniform in good condition.
✅ If I arrive at school not in proper school uniform, there must be a letter or phone call to the Office from my parent. If neither is received , my parent will be called to collect me to go home & change.
✅ When I wear the school uniform, I must always represent the values and principles of my school.
Maintaining a high standard of work in my studies. This includes:
✅ Completing and submitting all class work and homework assignments on time, completed to the best of my ability. I shall ensure that I alone will complete my work, and no one else will do the work on my behalf, as this does not demonstrate my capabilities and what I have learned.
✅ Having all required books and stationery in class daily , as well as keeping my stationery and books in proper order. This includes covering my books.
✅ Participating in physical training and showing sportsmanship.
DESIGNATED AREAS
Learners are not allowed to be in classrooms, the Staff Room and Church facilities unless under supervision by a Staff Member of ECS before and after school, as well as during break times.
PERSONAL SAFETY & WELL BEING
Learners should exercise the greatest care while on the school grounds and obey all school rules and instructions given at assemblies and by Staff. Whilst the school shall, always , take reasonable safety precautions to avoid injury/loss to learners, the School, SGB or the NW Department of Education shall not be liable for any claims/litigations which may arise in respect of this. No unsupervised ball games are allowed during breaks and before or after school. If a learner is unwell or falls ill at school, then the parents / legal guardians will be contacted for his/her instructions .
NB: It is essential that all contact numbers and details are provided accurately on the Admission / Re-Admission forms. Learners who are using chronic medication MUST inform the Office, as well as their Educators. Learners who suffer from respiratory illnesses must always carry their asthma pumps or special medication with them. In pursuance of its safety and security policy, the school reserves the right to conduct a search of a learner if there are reasonable grounds for this action.
CODE OF BEHAVIOUR – PARENTS
Parents form an integral part of our school. They are important members of the Ebenezer Christian School team. Together with staff, management, and children, they strive to live the Vision and Mission of ECS.
The school expects parents to:
✅ Be loyal members of our school family.
✅ Take a keen interest in their child’s academic progress.
✅ Be passionate and enthusiastic about our school’s vision and mission.
✅ Radiate the positive image of our school into the broader community.
✅ Be punctual - in paying the fees - in adhering to due dates - observing school hours and in reacting to school communication.
✅ Support school functions and meetings - be parents who are involved with their children.
✅ Refrain from seeing teachers during school hours.
The principles underpinning the development of the following dress code are practicality, health, safety, affordability, simplicity, impartiality, and pride in our School. These guidelines have been set to ensure that there are no unnecessary distractions for learners.
HAIR (Boys):
Hair must be neat and clean and should not bunch at the back of the head or above the ears. Hair must be shaped and evenly graded. Hair must be clear of the collar and must not cover any part of the ear. It must be 2cm above the eyebrows, even when combed forward. Steps and fashionable/extreme hairstyles, likely to cause comment or distraction, are not acceptable within the school context. No wild or “big” hairstyles. Decorative shaved patterns are not permitted. Hair may not be bleached or coloured, thus changing the natural colour of the hair.
HAIR (Girls):
Hair must be neat and clean. Hair that is collar-length or longer must be tied up and may not hang loose or down the sides of the face and head. Fringes that hang down over the forehead to cover the eyes must be tied up/clipped back from the forehead with hair clips or an Alice band. Fancy, unusual, or extreme hairstyles, likely to cause comment or distraction, are not acceptable within the school context. No wild or “big” hairstyles. Natural singles/braids (with or without extensions) are allowed if they are a maximum of 10mm in diameter. Singles/braids must be the same length and must be the natural colour of the girl’s hair.
Hair must be held neatly at the back of the head. Braided tails or loose pieces of hair may not be longer than 2cm at the back of the head in the neck. If it is longer than 2cm, it must be tied up. Dreadlocks must be locked and styled. Hair must not be bleached or coloured, thus changing the natural colour of the hair. Hair bands may be royal blue, orange or white. No other colours or patterns of hair bands are permitted.
ADORNMENTS:
✅ No jewellery, (including necklaces, chains, rings, arm bands, and bracelets of any kind) apart from standard watches, are permitted.
✅ Medic-alert discs may be worn.
✅ Girls may wear only a single pair of 15mm gold/silver sleepers or round studs in the lower part of the earlobe.
✅ Boys may not wear earrings, or pins to keep holes open.
✅ No other piercings are allowed.
✅ Additionally, scarves, beanies, gloves, and belts of the wrong colour will be confiscated.
